Losing Weight & Self Esteem - August 28th, 2009

Does it make you feel better when you are out shopping, out to eat, or doing whatever it is that you do, and you see people who are much worse off than you in the weight department?  For me, it does at times.  Just like any other thing in life, I think you can see that there is always someone worse off than yourself in any aspect.  Maybe that is a bad way to look at things, but if it gives you some perspective, I think it’s okay.  Sure you need to always do what you can to keep yourself up.

I think when you let yourself go in any area, it can get overwhelming, and can make just about any person want to give up.  Whether it be in weight, in getting up and getting ready for the day, or letting the clutter in your house take over and make it disasterous.  I have seen far too many people that I believe that has happened to.  As I stop and think about it, it  seems that if someone has weight issues, that a lot of times all other areas in their lives tend to be a mess.  If you pick just one thing to start out with to improve oni your life, the other things will generally follow in suit.  If it makes you feel better, look at what other lot in life someone has been give, and be glad for what you have.  Then from there just try to improve yourself.

Weight Loss Attitude - August 27th, 2009

Just like most things in life, you have to have a mind set of whatever it is that you are going to try to accomplish.  For me as an example, I have been trying to cook my meals to be a little more healthy.  I have been trying to make the usual recipes that my family enjoys, while adding a lot more vegetables to the meal.  I like to add a big green salad to my dinners.  A green salad will actually go with most any meal that you choose.  It will also be a good filler item.

If you can try to start a meal with vegetables, or a salad, the calories that you will eat with the remainder of the meal will be lessened.  And you will also be getting a lot more of the nutrients that your body needs to function properly.  By substituting some of your normal recipe items or eliminating them if it won’t comprimise the taste  to your meal, that will help as will.  When you really put your mind to doing things a little different, you will find that it can increase in every way the nutrition on the meal.  You may even notice that you feel a little healthier as well.

How To Enjoy Exercise - August 26th, 2009

Why in the world are diets so hard? I don’t think it is because we just don’t want to do them. Maybe it has something to do with how we go about doing it. People think that it is going to be a long difficult road. The real truth is that it does not have to be like pulling teeth. It can be as fun as you make it. Find an activity that you really enjoy and to really make it fun find a partner that you can do this activity with.

As an example, if you really like to walk, find a friend that will walk with you. That way you have someone that will motivate you and you can do the same for them. Plus when you go for a walk with this person you will have the opportunity to talk as you walk and your exercise will be over before you know it. The thing that usually stops people form working out or doing some sort of exercise is that they lose motivation and just stop all together. Make it easy on yourself and find a friend. Then while you are doing your daily exercise find a diet supplement that you feel comfortable with and use it in conjunction with your exercise routine. Give it a try, you just might like it.

Why Americans Are Overweight - August 22nd, 2009

I have been thinking about why we as Americans are overweight. One thing that I can think of is that we are all busy, but busy doing what? If I use myself as an example, I work everyday like most people and like most people I sit at a desk for about eight hours a during the day. I take a lunch break during the day only to sit more and feed my face while I am strenuously sitting. I think there might be a lot of people in this same place everyday. If that is all you do all day, of course you are going to put on the pounds. Part of our day needs to be spent doing some sort of exercise. Even if it is something simple like, a walk around the neighborhood. This at least gets your heart rate up and helps you to burn calories. While at work the only reason my heart rate spikes is a phone call that I did not want to get. So maybe we should all stop sitting so much and find something to do that will help us in the long run. Sitting in your cushiony swivel chair at your desk is not going to make anything.

Tennis For Exercise - August 21st, 2009

We went to play tennis Monday night as a family three weeks ago and thought it would be a great way to be active while spending time as a family. It didn’t turn out just the way that I was planning, but I think that some good lessons were learned in the process. As we were playing, the two younger children were very easily tired. They were complaining that it was too hard, too hot, and that they just didn’t want to run after the ball to return it. I thought I was going to hurt someone.

I just didn’t realize that my children were so lazy! I couldn’t believe that it was really that hard for them to do. I don’t know, maybe they were just tired, or ornery that day, but it definitely wasn’t that hot. We had to sit down and talk after that experience. We now have decided that each day we have to do some sort of exercise, each member of the family. We started by having the kids jog or walk around the block a couple of times at first. Now they choose if that is what they are going to do, or if not, they can pick something different. They actually look forward to their little bit of exercise each day, even if it’s small. It’s just about time to hit the tennis courts again and see if anything has changed!

Eating To Increase Metabolism - August 20th, 2009

I wonder why certain people are just blessed with a great metabolism. Don’t you always have that one friend that can just eat anything they want, and never gain an ounce? And, why is it that a lot of times the really thin people seem like they are constantly eating? I have heard that it is good for your metabolism to eat small meals more frequently throughout the day. This is because your body has to keep itself working to digest the food that you are putting in your body.

That does not mean that you should be eating potato chips and candy bars all day long, it just means that you should be eating smaller more frequent things that are actually doing good things for your body. Food is fuel. Just like a car needs gasoline to run, our bodies need food for fuel to keep our body running properly. This society includes food in every aspect of life it seems. Our plates and serving sizes are way bigger than they should ever be. We eat when we are bored. We eat when we are happy. We eat when we are sad. We just plain eat too much. It amazes me that we have so many food options so readily available too. I guess when it comes down to it, all we can control is ourselves. Know your body, and what it really needs to run properly, and eat accordingly.

How Much Exercise Is Necessary? - August 18th, 2009

If you want a great fat burner, try two a day workouts for football. Not only in the morning will you get a great workout, but in the afternoon or evening as well. You will get your stretching, you running in, squats, sit-ups, pushups, plenty of ladders, and many other exercises that are too many to list. One thing that you have to take into account is that this workout is done out in the elements of the weather.

During the first part of the football season where I live, August tends to be one of the hottest months of the year. This also just happens to be when the two a day workouts are done. Because of this, it is very important to drink plenty of water. Being one of the statistics on television as one who died during football workouts due to overheating your body or dehydration is just not an option. The main problem that I have with this workout is that I am the driver and chef in this whole process.

My part of this workout is making sure my son is getting plenty of high protein and carbohydrate filled meals and snacks, and going back and forth two times a day taking my son to football practice. I don’t think that taxi service and being a chef really consist of a fat burning workout, even though I feel like I’m getting a great workout myself.
