Fast Food & Obesity - September 9th, 2009

I went to lunch today like I do everyday, however today I realized that while I am at lunch I am probably going to kill myself. My lunch consisted of two pepperoni Hot Pockets and some water. The water was the healthiest part of this picture. Then I started to think about what I have for lunch on a regular basis. Some of the time I will bring leftovers which are ordinarily fairly healthy, but on other days when I am completely starving to death I go the easy route.

Fast food, this seems to be closer to death in a bag than something I really should be consuming and putting into my body. I have seen people eating things like carrots and celery for lunch and thought how nasty is that. Well, now I am beginning to think that I should take a look at myself and probably say the same thing. I can’t think of a single thing that is inside a Hot Pocket that is worth while. How can anyone eat something like this and consider themselves on a diet? I think going forward I should apply more green things into my lunch bag. I would rather not feel like I have put my hand into the lunch bag of death one to many times!

Fat Burning Shoes - September 9th, 2009

Have you seen or heard of the new shoes on the market that claim to help you exercise as you walk? You can be going about your daily activities, and they say as long as you are wearing these shoes, your legs will be getting toned as you go. That is a pretty great claim. I mean, who wouldn’t want to get their exercise in as they are running the market, or taking kids from one place to another.

Really, what better way to multi-task than to wear the shoes that will pretty much do the work for you, right? Okay, let me be the first to say, I know someone who has the shoes. I don’t know the shoes’ name, but they are pretty goofy looking. So, this guy at work comes in wearing his work clothes, which are fairly dressy, and then you look down and see these ridiculous shoes! Is that professional? Really! They look like a pair of skater shoes on steroids, or maybe even those kids shoes with wheels in them called Heely’s. My personal idea is that they are not work attire. Even if you are getting that work out while you work. Don’t subject everyone else you work with to see that getup!

Advertising Linked To Obesity - September 9th, 2009

While watching television at the end of a long day do you find yourself have sudden urges? I was watching television the other day, when suddenly I had the urge to get something to eat. The strange part was that I had just eaten. There was a commercial on that was showing chocolate candy. I can’t explain it but I felt like I wanted some chocolate right that moment. I didn’t have any chocolate at my disposal but I did have some other tasty treats. So what did I do?

I went quickly to the cupboard and grabbed something. It was not until later that I realized what I had done. By the promptings of some commercial I felt the desire to eat something. Have you done this before? Commercials are created to make us want to buy something and in this case I did not buy anything but I had the craving to eat what they were showing. I could see how this type of marketing could work. Be careful what you see on T.V. you may just need to have it and that could lead to a few extra pounds that you didn’t want. Replace that urge with a few minutes of exercise. Do a few quick jumping jacks instead. Maybe this will cure the urge!

The Best Workout - September 8th, 2009

One of my favorite ways to exercise is to get on an elliptical machine. It seems like if I can put a good television show on, or listen to some fast moving music, that I am able to get on the machine and go forever it seems. I love that I can do a variety of programs on the elliptical machine too. Some of the programs are harder than others, but I can usually push through them, and keep it going.

I think the reason it seems easier to me to do than other things is that I am keeping my mind pre-occupied. I try to cover up the timer so that doesn’t distract me, and just focus on what I’m watching or listening to while doing the full program. For me to watch those little red dots going up as it gets harder and harder and then down making it a bit easier is really satisfying to me. I feel like I just climbed a huge mountain peak by the time I am done. I know it is the adrenaline that gets me pumped, but it is such a great feeling. I am not able to do this in the evening though. That adrenaline rush makes it so I cannot fall asleep at night. It’s a great thing to get my day started off right.

Proven Diet Plans - September 7th, 2009

There are so many diets out there, I don’t really know how people actually decide which one to try. For me, I look at maybe someone around me that has had success in using or doing a specific diet. I look at some of the diet pills that have been around for years and years, like Dexatrim and wonder if they really work. I think they have something in them that is a stimulant, that triggers your body to not want to eat, or just not feel hungry.

Then there are the tried and true programs out there that have been around forever like Weight Watchers. I know for a fact that this diet works when applied properly. I have done it, and it does work. I think Weight Watchers has actually gone with the times, and has made their program to fit into our lifestyles as the times have changed. Maybe that is where part of it’s success comes from.

With Weight Watchers, there are no diet pills or stimulants involved at all. It is all based on what you eat, and also on basic exercise. There are also some newer fad diets that just come and go with time. I think when you decide which diet is best for you, think about how long the diet has been around, and if there has been some actual success. Ask around, I think that is your best bet!

Wrestlers & Weight Loss - September 6th, 2009

Here is an idea for you. What extremes have you put yourself to lose those extra pounds that magically found their way on to your waist line? It truly is amazing how those pounds just seem to show up. One day you look just fine and the next you look in the mirror and you suddenly look like you ate a Dunkin’ Donuts for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Well maybe you can fix this problem if you want to take a page from every high school wrestling program across the country.

I remember when in high school, I would see the wrestlers going through their strenuous practice and suddenly I would see one of them come around the corner wearing a big black plastic garbage bag. At first I had no idea why one kid would be running around the gym for what seemed like eternity wearing a garbage bag. I was then informed that they did this to lose weight for a match. They would lose a ton of weight by doing this. I have been told that doing this was not the safest form of weight loss, but it does work. I don’t know if I would recommend this, but what crazy things have you done for a pound or two?

Allowing Obesity - September 4th, 2009

Is there any point when people just give up and don’t care about their weight? I have heard older people worried about their calorie intake just as much as I see younger people concerned with the same thing. I think it is just one of those things that just never really goes away. I am glad that people try to be conscious about their weight, but there are far too many people who are over obsessive over their weight. We’ve heard it over and over, the fact that on the television, on magazines, and just in society in general, that you have to be skinny to be an okay person. It’s really sad, but it’s true.

Children learn it at a very young age as well. It seems like it is one extreme or the other with most people. Either they go overboard on dieting, or they absolutely do nothing about their weight. But even those who don’t do anything to control their weight, I believe that if they are overweight it bothers them. I think it’s uncomfortable to be overweight. People look at you different when you are overweight, and sometimes you are just treated badly. I don’t know the extreme on either side of the coin because I haven’t been hugely overweight or underweight, but I think severely underweight people deal with the same issues. I wish we could all just be happy with the way we are.

Fen Phen Diet Pills - September 2nd, 2009

I have been thinking about the Fen Phen phase that a lot of people were on in the late 1990’s. A lot of people lost a lot of weight, and it was wildly popular among all sorts of people who wanted to lose weight. I knew a few people who actually tried Phen Phen and lost a whole lot of weight while they were on it. They looked like completely different people. It was an amazing product. It didn’t take too long before the product was recalled, and that it was no longer available to these people. There were huge lawsuits in which a lot of people who took the pills were awarded settlements for their suffering. I don’t think they thought that they were suffering at the time they were dropping the weight so much, but the after effects were much more than what these people thought they were signing up for. You better believe that everyone gained all the weight they had lost while on Phen Phen, some even gained much more. And now they had side effects from what the pills when taken together did to a person’s body. I feel bad for these people that desperately wanted to lose weight at any cost, and now are paying the price. It makes you think twice before doing the latest trend in dieting without doing a little research first!

The Cost Of Diet Pills - August 31st, 2009

I have noticed that you can spend a lot of different amounts on a diet pill. If you have purchased or even thought of purchasing some sort of diet pill, then you have noticed that some of these pills can cost you a little, or sometimes it’s quite a bit.  I have to wonder what types of ingredients each of these products have, and if it’s really worth it if I compare labels and the ingredients from two different kinds of pills are exactly the same, if I should really be paying more for one than the other.  I have heard that sometimes the ingredients are “watered down” in some of the different products or diet pills that we buy.

So I wonder how we know what we are buying, and if we are really getting the true value of a product that we are buying.   Like anything, I tend to like to buy quality, and will often pay a little more for a product if I know that it works well, or have been recommended the procuct because of the quality.   When we are spending money, it pays to check things out a little, and determine that if we buy a product, that it better work.  We should also know before we buy, if we are not satisfied with the product, if we can return it for a full refund.   Just my thought for the day!

Making Time For Exercise - August 29th, 2009

At the end of the day, do you wonder where the day went and how you are going to ever lose the weight? You are not alone. People everywhere are deeply searching for a way to shave a few pounds off of their mid section. I don’t know that there is a fool proof way to do that, but I do know that we should be able to enjoy the effort. I don’t believe that the only way to lose some extra inches is to feel the pain and the burn. I have been trying to think of ways that I can enjoy the time I spend exercising.

My day is filled it seems from beginning to end and I know I am not alone. Parents everywhere are running out of time everyday. I decided one thing I could do, was volunteer to help coach one of my son’s football teams. While I am there I do the exercises with the kids. Not only do they love that I am doing it with them I actually feel pretty good while doing it also. I have been doing this for a few weeks and I am not sure if I have lost a ton of weight or not, but I do know that I feel better and my son loves the time we get to spend together at practice. Find a way that you to can incorporate some sort of activity with your kids. You’ll love it and so will they.
